Gateway To Elation Reflection On 2022 Africa Day

Map of Africa

Agenda 2063 of the African Union (AU) talks about the Africa we want. As Gateway to Elation, we are striving for an Africa where blind people contribute. We want to see blind people being included in all AU programmes from a young age.

One of the most important factors is food and nutrition. Blind people and PWDs in general face challenges in accessing food. This could be due to lack of employment or low wages, inability to access food venues, lack of information regarding food distribution, among others. This accounts for both free food and paid food.

However, we believe we as blind people can contribute to food security. If we get the necessary information about agriculture and land, we can contribute to a Africa we want; where all Africans are empowered and given the chance to improve life expectancy through food manufacturing.

The 2022 AU theme is:

“Strengthening Resilience in Nutrition and Food Security on the African Continent: Strengthening Agro-Food Systems, Health and Social Protection Systems for the Acceleration of Human, Social and Economic Capital Development”.

It is our duty as blind Africans to contribute to food nutrition, food security and all development here in Africa. The Africa we want entails a Africa where everyone is given the stage and necessary resources to be part of the African development.

HAPPY AFRICA DAY TO YOU ALL!
